Cervical Disc Herniation Treatment in Miami

Calm Woman Managing Neck Pain.png

Cervical radiculopathy occurs when a nerve in the neck becomes compressed or irritated. A herniated disc is one common cause: the soft material inside a spinal disc pushes through its outer layer and places pressure on a nearby nerve. Patients may experience neck pain that travels into the shoulder, arm, or hand, sometimes accompanied by numbness, tingling, or weakness.

Many patients improve without surgery. Treatment may include temporary activity modification, anti-inflammatory or pain medication, physical therapy, posture and ergonomic changes, and a physician-directed home exercise program. In selected cases, a cervical epidural steroid injection may help reduce inflammation and relieve radiating arm pain.

Surgery may be considered when symptoms persist despite appropriate nonsurgical care or when significant or progressive weakness develops. Depending on the location of the nerve compression and the patient’s anatomy, options may include anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF), cervical disc replacement, or posterior cervical laminoforaminotomy. The goal is to relieve pressure on the affected nerve while preserving alignment, stability, and motion whenever appropriate.
