Revision Spine Surgery in Miami
Revision spine surgery is a second or subsequent operation performed when a new or unresolved problem develops after an earlier procedure. Reasons may include recurrent stenosis or disc herniation, adjacent-segment disease, pseudarthrosis, implant loosening or breakage, infection, progressive deformity, imbalance, or persistent nerve compression. Revision operations are often more complex because anatomy may be altered by scar tissue, implants, or prior fusion.
Not every new symptom after surgery requires another operation. When it is safe to do so, treatment may include physical therapy, medication, targeted injections, activity modification, bone-health improvement, nicotine cessation, and treatment of contributing medical conditions. Observation may be appropriate when imaging findings are stable and symptoms remain manageable.
Revision surgery may involve decompression, removal or replacement of implants, repair of a nonunion, extension of a fusion, treatment of infection, or correction of spinal alignment. Navigation, advanced imaging, neuromonitoring, and minimally invasive techniques may be used when appropriate. Successful planning begins with identifying the precise reason the prior operation did not produce a durable result and setting realistic goals for pain relief, neurological recovery, alignment, and function.

When to seek urgent evaluation?
New loss of bowel or bladder control, numbness in the groin or saddle region, rapidly worsening weakness, sudden difficulty walking, or symptoms following significant trauma require urgent medical evaluation.
Treatment recommendations are individualized. The appropriate plan depends on the patient’s symptoms, examination, imaging findings, general health, and personal goals.
